 Vacuum Application Engineering Technician

Overview:

  • Requires high energy individual who enjoys working in a small business environment on challenging projects for cutting edge science and technology based customers.
  • Position includes interactions both with customer engineering personnel and on the shop personnel.
  • Requires a self directed person with the ability to handle and complete in a timely manner multiple tasks of varying complexity with a minimum of supervision.

General responsibilities include:

  • Percentage of time spent on a particular duty or responsibility will fluctuate depending on the project status or customer needs at a given time.
  • Defining and supporting standard and custom thermal and vacuum processing and simulation systems.
  • Following projects from initial customer consultation through system definition and design to final integration and test.
  • Use knowledge and creativity to work with manufacturing and engineering team members to execute projects.
  • Represent company as the customer’s prime technical contact on a given project.
  • Develop relationships with other company team members committed to supporting all personnel in their endeavors in engineering, manufacturing or management.
  • Development of cost estimates and proposals for customer quotations.
  • Troubleshoot and develop solutions to problems typical of prototype and low volume production of complex products.
  • Identification and implementation of quality and productivity improvements.
  • Assist in investigations on root cause of problems.
  • Assist in follow thru of corrective actions.
  • Minimum 10% travel, domestic and international.

Skills:

  • Academic Background/Experience: Recognized Technical Training in applied Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Ability to interactively discuss specific customer applications and to recommend Abbess standard and custom product solutions.
  • Design:
    • 1. Work internally to assist in system and detail level design.
    • 2. Experience with common industrial control technology design including: relay-based logic, RS-485/Modbus, PC-based industrial control applications (i.e. Visual Basic, LabView, WatView, DAQFactory, etc…), pressure and temperature sensing and control.
    • 3. Knowledge of wiring schematics and standards.
  • Integration and Test:
    • 1. Perform final integration and test of vacuum process control systems
    • 2. Strong hands-on troubleshooting experience.

Experience in the following areas desired:

  • Management of Projects including BOM generation, development of Routings, Scheduling, follow up and progress tracking, trouble shooting and resolving of manufacturing, drawing and specification issues, interface with customer, project Quality Assurance, assembling
  • Technical Data Packages, and tracking additions and cost adders.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • HVAC design and experience in HVAC controls

Senior Technician

Testing Duties include:

  • Demonstrated capability to perform various testing processes/procedures unsupervised including: Level II Helium Mass Spectrometer Leak Testing , pressure testing including Level II Pneumatic Pressure Test, Hydrostatic Testing, Level II Electrical Testing, High and Low Voltage, other non-destructive testing.

Fabrication and Assembly Duties include:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform assembly processes/procedures unsupervised including: Level II soldering of mechanical components, mechanical and electrical assembly and general assembly tasks including, but not limited to, mechanical polishing, deburring, tapping, cleaning, stamping, material handling and packaging.

Inspection Duties include:

  • Skill in set up and inspection of large envelope parts.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform inspections, but not limited to visual inspection.
  • Qualified to perform inspection process/procedures unsupervised.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum High school degree or equivalent. Associates Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical, technical and electrical proficiency.
  • Ability to read blueprints and knowledge of GD&T.
  • Strong work ethic

  • Program G-Code
  • Set up and operate large Vertical and Horizontal Machining Centers.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas.

  • Demonstrate the proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Development of manufacturing plans from initial quote through actual manufacture.
  • Quotation and Proposal development.
  • Experience with ASME Code Section VIII Pressure Vessels, Vacuum Vessels and Process Vessels a plus.
  • Cryogenic equipment fabrication experience a plus.
  • Ability to use Autocad
